Visit from Nauru Law Society and UNDP Legal Specialist

Professor Emerita Jennifer Corrin, Barina Waqa (President of the Nauru Law Society) and Professor Rick Bigwood (Head of UQ Law School)

On 8 September 2025, the University of Queensland Law School had the pleasure of welcoming the President of the Nauru Law Society together with Shahin R. Ali, Legal Specialist with the Nauru Accountable and Inclusive Governance Project (United Nations Development Programme). The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the Law Society’s long-term vision and to consider ways in which UQ might contribute to strengthening legal capacity and governance in Nauru.

During the meeting, the President was presented with a copy of Contract Law in the South Pacific, a book authored by CPICL’s Professor Emerita Jennifer Corrin. The exchange symbolised a shared commitment to fostering robust legal institutions in the Pacific and to supporting the development of professional legal communities across the region.

This visit reflects CPICL’s ongoing mission to expand its Pacific Legal Systems and Comparative Law Program, which aims to deepen scholarly engagement, build partnerships, and contribute to the advancement of public, international, and comparative law in the region.
