CPICL Fellow Dr Renato Costa delivered address at the 2025 UQLS Valedictory Dinner

On 11 October 2025, CPICL Fellow and Acting Executive Director (Comparative Law), Dr Renato Costa, had the privilege of being chosen as the honoured academic for the graduating class of 2025 and to deliver the keynote address at the 2025 UQ Law Society Valedictory Dinner. In a speech that reflected both scholarship and moral conviction, Dr Costa invited the graduating class to remember the enduring essence of law beyond its technical form.

Drawing inspiration from Ulpian’s precepts - engraved at the entrance of the UQ Law School - and from the biblical text of Micah 6:8, he called upon the future members of the profession to practise law with honesty, humility, and mercy. He urged them to always remember the precepts of law: live honestly, harm no one, and give each their due.
