Transboundary Marine Pollution Response Workshop

Pillar IV: Maritime Environmental Awareness

This workshop, co-chaired by Australia and Vietnam, is being held in support of the Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum (EAMF) Expanded ASEAN Seafarers’ Training (EAST), and seeks to address issues pertinent to the coordination of responses to transboundary maritime pollution incidents. The key objectives of the workshop are:

  1. To examine existing international, regional and national mechanism for co-operation in trans-boundary marine pollution incidents, and
  2. To examine other regimes, mechanisms and good practice that may enhance this existing regime and further cooperation in trans boundary marine pollution incidents

Organised by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the workshop is being hosted by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and the Marine and Shipping Law Unit, TC Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland.

  • Professor Nick Gaskell, Marine and Shipping Law Unit, UQ
  • Dr Michael White QC, Marine and Shipping Law Unit, UQ
  • The workshop will be chaired by Mr Jamie Storrie (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) and Mr Le Dai Thang, Deputy Director, Bureau of Marine Resources Control and Marine Island Environment Protection. Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment
