CPICL Welcomed Solomon Islands Officials for Interactive Constitutional Session

On 14 November, the UQ Solomon Islands Partnership hosted a two-hour session for a group of senior public servants from Solomon Islands in the Law School Boardroom, an engaging opportunity to share updates on recent research and collaborative activities. CPICL Fellow, Professor Emerita Jennifer Corrin, joined by Ms Zaneta Kafe, ran an interactive quiz, How Well Do You Know Your Constitution? The quiz sparked lively discussion and reflection on constitutional principles and practice, underscoring Professor Corrin’s longstanding leadership in Pacific legal scholarship and legal pluralism.

The session also showcased new and ongoing work across the University community. Dr Stacey Pizzino outlined a project examining the environmental impacts of unexploded ordinance in Solomon Islands. Dr Nicole George shared findings from recent research with Firmina Iyabora on a regional Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Guidance Note for the Pacific Islands Forum. Participants explored an archival collection of photographs and documents relating to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force. In a fitting conclusion, Emeritus Professor Clive Moore formally handed over a collection of archival materials to be returned to Solomon Islands.

The event highlighted CPICL’s commitment to collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and practical impact across the Pacific - exemplified by Professor Corrin’s work and the Centre’s broader engagement with regional partners.
