Join your fellow first-years for an exclusive UQ introductory welcome experience to the legal profession, beginning from the Supreme Court of Queensland.
You'll hear from esteemed members of the UQ Law Alumni Association, barristers, solicitors, judges and criminal law prosecutors. You will also have the opportunity to visit Level 16 Quay Central Chambers (a leading commercial law barristers' chambers), a criminal courtroom, an actual court trial or sentencing hearing, and the College of Law Brisbane offices to hear from senior lawyers.
This event will be divided into a morning session (8:30am-12pm) and an afternoon session 12:30pm-4pm). Please select one session and arrive on time according to your ticket type.
Please arrive in the plaza area outside the QEII Courts of Law by 8:30am if you are attending the morning session and 12:30pm if you are attending the afternoon session. You will need to register your attendance at the UQ Law School welcome desk and follow the instructions of the staff members who will instruct you on how to reach the Banco Court for Element 1. It is imperative that you arrive on time so that the schedule for the day can be observed. The groups will be accompanied throughout the program by UQ Law School staff members and student volunteers.
In order to move around to the separate locations for each element, attendees will be allocated to smaller groups after Element 1, and the groups will rotate to two of the the various elements.
Element 1 - Banco Court - Introduction to the Queensland Legal System and The Judiciary
Element 2 - Criminal Courtroom - Introduction to a Criminal Trial
Element 3 - Supreme Court - Visit to a Criminal Trial or Sentencing Hearing
Element 4 - Level 16 Quay Central Chambers - The Barristers
Element 5 - College of Law - The Legal Profession and The Solicitors

- Business attire is required for this event.
- Please be mindful that you will be walking a reasonable distance to reach each session's location.
- A copy of the program will be emailed to you before the event for your convenience.
- Capacity at this event is strictly limited due to venue limitations. If allocation is exhausted, you will be placed in a waitlist.
