CPICL Fellow, Professor Emerita Jennifer Corrin, Co-Convened Symposium on Pacific Human Rights and Jurisprudence

On 3 July 2025, CPICL Fellow Professor Emerita Jennifer Corrin, a leading scholar whose work has profoundly shaped the field of Pacific legal systems, facilitated a one-day symposium at Victoria University of Wellington, together with Dr Mele Tupou Vaitoi. The event brought together students, scholars, and legal professionals to examine the complex constitutional, legal, and governance challenges confronting Pacific Island nations.

The symposium featured a diverse array of student-led presentations, addressing topics such as constitutional development, climate change, customary law, justice, regional security, and human rights. Each contribution reflected a deep engagement with Pacific legal traditions and offered fresh perspectives on the evolving jurisprudential landscape of the region.

Professor Corrin opened the day with a keynote session on Pacific constitutions, highlighting human rights and avenues for the development of Pacific jurisprudence. Her leadership highlighted CPICL’s ongoing commitment to fostering regionally engaged legal scholarship and capacity-building. More broadly, the symposium amplified the voices of emerging legal thinkers and reaffirmed the importance of sustained academic dialogue in shaping equitable and locally resonant legal futures across the Pacific.

Professor Corrin's participation was funded by CPICL and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Wellington.
