About the event

The relationship between patent law and access to healthcare, pharmaceutical therapies, and vaccines has been controversial. It has taken a prominent place in the international discourse and has been characterized by heated debates on how to design laws and policies to provide access to affordable essential medicines and vaccines.

The virtual event will feature a talk on Dr. Adekola Tolulope’s recent book, 'Regional Cooperation, Intellectual Property Law, and Access to Medicines,' which examines how countries in the global south may effectively use intellectual property to serve public health purposes through the stratagem of regional integration.

The short talk by Dr. Adekola will be followed by a moderated panel discussion. The panelists will include Dr. Amaka Vanni of the University of Leeds, Dr. Owoeye Olasupo of the University of Augsburg in Germany, and Chimdessa Fekadu TSEGA of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Together, they will share their insights and expertise, discussing the contributions of the book and stimulating further questions about the future development of the subject.
