Dr Ananian-Welsh’s research focuses on the separation of powers, particularly the independence of Australian judges. Judicial independence is integral to democracy and the rule of law. It is also complex, frequently litigated and under persistent threat from political and other forces. Dr Ananian-Welsh’s research aims to identify the limits of existing protections for judicial independence, and suggest legal and other reforms to strengthen this vital constitutional notion.
