Dr Warren Swain has been appointed the first Professor-in-Residence at the Queensland Supreme Court Library.
He will spend his time there on various legal history projects. These will include working with Adjunct Professor John McKenna QC on compiling a website on Queensland legal history.
Dr Swain will also begin research on a catalogue of Australian legal manuscripts in the format of Professor Sir John Baker’s two volume English Legal Manuscripts. When published this will provide the only guide to legal manuscripts kept in various State archives and libraries across Australia.
During his appointment, Dr Swain will deliver one of the annual Selden Society Lectures. His topic will be the legal treatise. The Selden Society was founded in 1887 by Frederic William Maitland 'to encourage the study and advance the knowledge of the history of English Law'.
