The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom is presently hearing a case concerning the legal procedures by which the United Kingdom can withdraw from the European Union following the Brexit referendum in June.
The Court must consider whether the British Government is able to initiate the process of withdrawal unilaterally, or whether this must first be authorised by the UK Parliament. The Court will also consider if the devolved legislatures of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland must also give their consent.
Professor Nicholas Aroney, who is presently a Visiting Fellow in the Programme for the Foundations of Law and Constitutional Government at Oxford University, was asked to provide a commentary on the case for The Telegraph (UK).
