The BEL SET consultants help you connect with students for your available paid and unpaid positions, and are happy to walk you through the process. UQ websites on which employers can advertise directly include StudentHub and GlobalGrad.

Organisations often find they benefit from the up-to-date knowledge, skills and the enthusiasm that a student brings. From the student’s point of view paid work or short-term unpaid work experience allows them to explore career options, gain hands-on experience in their field, and be competitive in an employment market that values work-ready graduates.

BEL SET works with employers to run a wide range of events, giving students opportunities to meet and learn from industry professionals. In return, organisations raise their profile amongst the law student cohort and meet some of the law school’s high achieving students. Events include:

We have a volunteer roster of 500 law students available to work pro bono in your organisation. You're first consulted to determine essential requirements. We then select suitable students after a formal application process. Students can assist with work such as:

  • legal research
  • casework assistance
  • preparation for proceedings
  • assistance in court

The Career Mentoring Program matches highly-motivated students with experienced professionals. You play a role in your mentee’s development while improving your own leadership and coaching skills. Students gain insight into their chosen career and bridge gaps between study and the workplace.  

The program runs throughout the year (March - June or August - October) and complements students’ academic knowledge by offering a real industry perspective and practical advice.
