Renato is a PhD candidate in the School of Law, The University of Queensland. His research project examines the review of Autonomous Weapons Systems under Article 36 of the Additional Protocol I of the Geneva Conventions.
Before joining the University of Queensland, Renato worked as a legal advisor to the Swiss Armed Forces in the section of the Law of Armed Conflict, and served as the legal advisor to the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration unit within the Department of Peace Operations at United Nations Headquarters. He holds Bachelor and Master of Law degrees from the University of Bern, Switzerland, as well as a Master of Arts (War in the Modern World) from King’s College London, United Kingdom.
