Professor Heather Douglas, ARC Future Fellow at the TC Beirne School of Law, wrote an article for today's Courier-Mail, Drag Queensland's abortion laws out of the 19th century. Professor Douglas argues that abortion must be made legal in Queensland so that women can undergo the procedure safely in major hospitals.
Queensland's current abortion laws prompt women who want abortion to travel interstate, which is often not an option for those in poverty or abusive domestic relationships. Professor Douglas commends the recent bills introduced by MP Rob Pyne seeking to introduce a consistent regulatory framework for abortion in Queensland.
