Marine and Shipping Law Unit
Teaching, research and consulting in marine environmental law, maritime law and international law of the sea
We are a community of scholars within the TC Beirne School of Law at The University of Queensland providing teaching, research and consulting services in marine environmental law, maritime law and international law of the sea.
We provide the legal community, law students, government, NGOs and the marine and shipping industries with specialist advice about marine environmental law and maritime law. Our role also includes collaborating with other marine centres on multi-disciplinary projects, and liaising with legal and marine scholars from around the world.
Each year, we offer a number of courses and seminars in environmental law, maritime law and related areas. Students can enrol in courses either as part of a postgraduate degree at The University of Queensland or any other recognised university, or on a 'once-off' basis. We also design and deliver international workshops for the maritime industry.
Our Director, Professor Craig Forrest, is General Editor of the Australian and New Zealand Maritime Law Journal.
