Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students’ Moot

This moot will play a key role in promoting students’ understanding of commercial law and advocacy and provide an opportunity to find out what mooting at university is like.

Students are required to form teams of two advocates. Teams are encouraged to have a third member in the role of researcher/instructing solicitor. Teams will be required to prepare both sides of the argument and provide written submissions to the competition organisers. 

The competition is well-supported by barristers and solicitors from Ashurst, Allens and North Quarter Lane Chambers, as well as the Indigenous Lawyers Association of Queensland. Students will have the opportunity to workshop the moot problem and network with members of other teams.

The competition’s Preliminary Finals and Final is usually held in July/August in the Queensland Supreme Court.  Up to three students will be selected for this team.
